England Squads For India ODIs, ICC Champions Trophy: England has unveiled its squad for their upcoming India tour (T20Is and ODIs) and 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, hosted by Pakistan. CT 2025 tournament, scheduled for February and March, will follow a hybrid format, although the detailed fixtures are yet to be announced. Jos Buttler will continue as captain, with Joe Root making his much-anticipated return to the side after nearly a year.

The biggest name missing from England squad is Ben Stokes, who reversed his ODI retirement to participate in the 2023 World Cup. Unfortunately, Stokes has been sidelined due to injury and will not feature in either the India tour or ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

Root's most recent ODI outing was during England's underwhelming campaign in ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023. The 2019 champions were eliminated in the group stage after securing just three wins in nine matches. Root's inclusion comes despite a subdued showing in the World Cup, where he scored 276 runs at an average of 30.66, well below his career average of 47.60.

However, Root has been in phenomenal form in Test cricket, amassing 1,556 runs in 2024 at an average of 55.57, including six centuries.
