West Indies won the toss and opted to bowl first in a must-win clash. Despite turbulent start, England’s batting innings was brought back on track by veteran Nat Sciver-Brunt and Heather Knight who helped England to post 141-7 in 20 overs. Chasing 142, West Indies openers Hayley Matthews and Qiana Joseph came out with all guns blazing and smoked England bowlers in all corners of the ground. They forged a 100-run partnership with both the players getting to their respective fifties. However, England managed to apply some breaks by claiming three quick wickets but it was too late by then as West Indies had already crossed the 130-run mark in 17 overs.
West Indies eventually crossed the target in 18 overs to qualify for the semi finals and knocked out England, who had been the table toppers until this defeat.
Notably, West Indies had not defeated England in 14 matches and had not away from home in 10 years leading up to this game.
