In a huge blow to England, wicketkeeper Jonny Bairstow sustained a fracture to his finger during the third test against India at Trent Bridge, Nottingham. The 28-year-old was hit on his left hand’s middle finger while attempting to take a delivery from James Anderson, left by Cheteshwar Pujara.

After being struck, he bent over in pain, then left the field with his hand covered by his cap. Soon, he was taken to the hospital for an x-ray which revealed that Bairstow has sustained a ‘small’ fracture.

Here’s the video of the incident:

The England Cricket confirmed the development on their official Twitter handle. However, it is yet to be known how soon he would return to the field.

After Bairstow walked out of the field, Vice-captain Jos Buttler put on the wicketkeeping gloves and made his way behind the stumps. England also have another keeping option in Ollie Pope in their side.
