London: After three players and four management team members from England's ODI squad contracted Coronavirus, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced a completely new team to play ODI and T20I series against Pakistan from July 8. Ben Stokes will be the captain of this new squad.

Nine out of the 18 team members are uncapped players, which means that they have never played an international game before. This series will be a great learning curve for some English youngsters.

"It's a great opportunity to play on the biggest stage, and for most of the players selected it's not necessarily something they would have been expecting 24 hours ago. It's an exciting group of players, with some young talent and some players who have impressed at domestic level over a long period of time," said Ashley Giles former England cricketer and Managing Director of England Men's Cricket.

Ben Stokes has never been the captain of the England team before and Giles said that it will be "an honour" for Stokes to lead the side. "Ben hasn't captained our ODI side before so it's a huge honour for him. We all wish him well and it's a role I'm sure he'll thrive in," he said.

Earlier in the day, the England and Wales Cricket Board in an official statement on Tuesday said that three players and four management team members have contracted Coronavirus while other members of the contingent have been termed close contacts. Due to this development, England had to pick a completely new squad for the ODI series against Pakistan.
