New Delhi: Away from all the hustle of DRS saga and sledging in the India-Australia Test series, Dwayne Smith has slammed the second fastest century of T20 cricket in 31 balls.

The recently retired West Indian all-rounder achieved this feat in Hong Kong T20 Blitz to lead his side Kowloon Cantons to an 8-wicket win over City Kaitak.

Smith, who raced to his fifty off just 16 balls, fell short by a whisker to eclipse his countrymen Chris Gayle’s record for the fastest T20 century off 30 balls. Gayle had smashed a 30 ball century in IPL 2013.

Smith hit as many as 13 sixes on his way to an unbeaten 121 off 40 balls.

Smith was particularly severe on the opposition spinners on Hong Kong’s Mission Road ground which is not considered to be one of the biggest. He took 29 runs with four sixes on the first over of the innings.
