In the ongoing second Test between India and West Indies, veteran all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja was given out by the umpire after reviews showed an edge but then the visuals which were used during the DRS was not of the actual ball played.
The incident transpired on the fifth ball of the 104th over bowled by pacer Kemar Roach where Jadeja wanted to drive the ball but ended up edging it towards Joshua da Silva who was standing behind the stumps. Umpire Marais Erasmus gave him not out but then the Windies demanded a review.
Michael Gough, the TV umpire saw the whole event and requested the ultra edge since the ball was very close to the bat. The actual ball showed where Jadeja playing away from the body. But then the following visuals rolled out and the images varied. Here, Jadeja’s bat was near to his body but the change went undiscovered as Umpire Gough looked through the entire series of events and thought it to be the actual image in order to give out whether the batter had edged the ball or not. UltraEdge showed a nick, and Jadeja had to walk back after scoring 61.
Darren Ganga who was commentating came up with an explanation for the mismatch during the innings break. According to him, Jadeja did edge the ball and there were bigger spikes that were shown this time, assuring that he would have been dismissed even if the correct images were used.
Ganga said, “This is the right image, and the correct decision was taken in the end. That’s the most important thing. To set the record straight, it’s not the fault of the umpire or the system. It’s just a glitch.”
During the Day 3 of the ongoing second Test match between India and West Indies, Indian bowlers struggled hard to pick wickets as Windies batters batted well and were in no haste to make runs.
