BCCI’s squad announcement for the Australia Test series brought sheer disappointment for the dynamic Indian opener, Shikhar Dhawan. The Indian cricket board announced an 18-member squad for the upcoming Test series which marked the comebacks of Murali Vijay and Rohit Sharma but Dhawan’s dismal outing in England cost him his spot.
Amid this dejection, the Indian opener is eyeing a strong return in the red-ball format through a good performance in the forthcoming Ranji season beginning from Thursday.
“I am disappointed to miss the Australia Test series, but it’s fine. I will be going to play the T20 and ODI series. I will try to play well in domestic cricket and try to earn back my Test spot,” said a positive sounding Dhawan.
In the recently concluded England series, Dhawan averaged only 19 from the eight innings and missed the second Test. His poor performance has led to his ousting from the West Indies series and eventually for the four-match contest against Australia.
He is currently a part of the ongoing ODI series against West Indies have but hasn’t played any impressive knock so far. He has managed to score only 106 runs in the first four matches at an average of 26.50.
India is currently leading the series 2-1 and is all set to play the last ODI of the year on Thursday in Thiruvananthapuram.
