The Afghanistan cricket team seems to have mastered the art of dragging opposition’s run-chase to the last over. They did that against Pakistan, repeated against Bangladesh and probably excelled the same against India. Afghanistan may have been ousted from the ongoing Asia Cup for losing their first two matches in the Super 4 tie but the way they put up a tough competitor against India on Tuesday was beyond imagination.
India needed just 7 runs off the last over and Rashid Khan had the onus to deliver the same. With one wicket in hand, Jadeja had the strike while it was speculated that he would close the deal quite comfortably. He struck for a boundary in the second ball and then came two singles.
With India needed just 1 run to take the home, Jadeja went for a biggie in order to finish the game but was caught by Najibullah at the deep mid-wicket region.
The Afghani cricketers and fans erupted in joy but still, there was an awkward silence on the stadium. Players at the dressing room were shocked, the Indian spectators were disappointed, Jadeja could believe what just happened and there was one little Indian fan who broke into tears.
Here’s the video:
Well, it was a heart-wrenching moment for the Indians but at the same time, Afghanistan’s outstanding efforts have to be appreciated as they managed not to lose at least against a top team like India.
