Australia's head coach Andrew McDonald has confirmed that veteran cricketer and opener David Warner will feature in the ODI series against India after having recovered from the elbow injury he sustained during the Test series he played earlier.
Notably, Warner did not have the best of outings when he featured in the Australian Playing XI in each of the first two Test matches of the series, scoring 26 runs from the three innings before being replaced by a concussion substitute in the second match in Delhi.
"He (Warner) is coming back (to India) for the one day series, he’s recovered from his injury," Australia head coach Andrew McDonald said as quoted in a PTI report.
Warner had returned home after the Delhi Test post picking up a hairline fracture in his elbow.
While there were speculation that he might not be in the plans of the team management for the World Test Championship final based on his poor form in recent times, especially in the game's longest format, McDonald has dismissed such claims.
“At the moment Dave’s fully in our plans for the World Test Championship,” McDonald said.
Meanwhile, the Aussie coach even provided an injury update on Usman Khawaja who hurt his leg while fielding in the final Test.
“The scans are pretty positive … so he (Khawaja) gets some time to rest up now and look forward to the World Test Championship,” McDonald said.
“I’m sure there’ll be a bit of rehabilitation around that, but at this stage nothing structural or anything that will keep him out for long,” he added.
He also reckoned that the hectic IPL will not be an obstacle in preparing for the WTC final.
"We’ll head to England with plenty of time to prepare over there. We’ve got things that are almost in place for that – we’ll be well prepared," he said.
The three-match IND vs AUS ODI series will commence with the first match scheduled on March 17 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
