United States (USA) lost to South Africa (SA) by 18 runs in the first match of the Super 8 stage of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024 on June 19 (Wednesday). However, they did not go down without a tough fight. Competing in the T20 World Cup 2024 for the first time, that too by virtue of being co-hosts along with West Indies, USA have had an incredible run at the marquee tournament already. After their loss to South Africa, West Indies cricket legend and former player Curtly Ambrose shared some inspiring words with them, the video of which is making rounds on social media.

USA turned out to be one of the teams to watch out for when they defeated the strong Pakistan team in New York in their Group Stage match of the T20 World Cup 2024. Once again, they delivered a spirited performance, pushing South Africa all the way in the match held in Antigua on June 19. Andries Gous' innings of 80 kept USA in contention until the final stages, but they ultimately lost the match by 18 runs.

'Nothing To Be Embarrassed' Tells Ambrose To USA Team After Defeat

Following the match, Curtly Ambrose visited the USA dressing room as a guest and offered words of encouragement to the players. The West Indies legend commended USA team for their strong performance on Wednesday, expressing confidence that they can continue to build on it. Ambrose assured them there was no cause for embarrassment in the defeat and encouraged them to strive for improvement in future matches.

"I make it quick. You guys played a great game today. Even though you lost, you played a great game. You can build on this for the other games. You have nothing to be ashamed of. Nothing to be embarrassed. You played a damn good game against a good team. And you can build on this going forward for the other games."

"I just want to wish you guys all the very best and you can do better. And you will do better. Just continue to believe in yourselves and don't be intimidated by the team you play against. Always believe in yourself. Individually and as a team. You will get the result in the end. And ofcourse, enjoy what you do. It's very important to do that. All the best going forward and you never know what can happen," said Curtly Ambrose.
