England are up against the Netherlands in match number 40 of the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023 at the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) Stadium in Pune. While England are already out of contention for a place in the semifinals, they still have a lot of pride and a place in the Champions Trophy 2025 to play for. Giving it their all, England all-rounder Chris Woakes did not want to lose his wicket and immediately informed the umpire that he had a faulty helmet when he came out to bat.
Woakes' act comes days after the Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka match in ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023 in which Sri Lanka's Angelo Mathews became the first batter to get timed out in an international cricket following an appeal from Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan when Mathews wanted his helmet changed after his two minutes to be ready to face the ball had elapsed. The Woakes' incident happened before the third ball of the 36th over when the English all-rounder came to the on-field umpire and had an exchange of words.
The picture of Woakes' exchange with the umpire has gone viral on social media:
Talking about the ENG vs NED match, England after electing to bat first post 339/9 and are sensing a massive win in Pune after having reduced the Dutch to 104/5. Ben Stokes (108 off 84) slammed a hundred for the Three Lions while Woakes himself made 51 off 45- two knock which come as big positives for the defending champions after a disappointing campaign in which they have lost six out of their seven matches already.
