The sixteenth season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is all set to kick start on March 31 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. It will be the defending champions Gujarat Titans taking on the four-time winners Chennai Super Kings in the tournament opener this year.
While Gujarat managed to win the competition in its first attempt to do so, there are teams like the Royal Challengers Bangalore who haven't managed to put their hands on the trophy despite participating in every tournament since the inaugural season in 2008. This year too Bangalore would come out hard to try and win that elusive trophy with their season beginning on April 2 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore.
Before the start of the T20 league though, good mates and former RCB teammates AB de Villiers and Virat Kohli had a fun virtual interaction session where the South African was seen asking some questions to the ex-Bangalore captain on his YouTube channel “The 360 Show.” When De Villiers asked Kohli to pick the worst runner between the wickets and the best, he chose Cheteshwar Pujara as the worst while rated MS Dhoni as the best.
Kohli recalled the Centurion Test of 2018 in which Pujara was run out in both the innings.
“Controversial one. Cheteshwar Pujara. It was a Centurion Test match on the tour of 2018. He was run out in both the innings,” Kohli said.
"Pujara was run-out in the first innings of Centurion Test and I said, 'Its OK', such things happen in cricket, Cheteshwar Pujara played a shot in the second innings and called Parthiv Patel for 3rd run, Pujara himself was running towards the danger end and he got run-out again and that too by a big margin," he added.
De Villiers picked Faf du Plessis as the worst he had run with admitting that even though Faf was quick he had run him out several times during his career. Mr 360 then chose Kohli as the best runner between the wickets with the former India captain choosing the man he succeeded at the helm of affairs in Indian cricket- MS Dhoni.
“Of course, it’s not even a question. I’ve been asked this question before. AB has been by far the fastest I’ve run with between wickets. The only other guy who I had so much coordination and understanding with was MS (Dhoni),” Kohli said.
“Now, I don’t know the speeds matching between the wickets. But him (AB) and MS, I would not even have to call. We hardly called,” he stated.
De Villiers will officially be inducted in the RCB Hall of Hame along with Chris Gayle on March 25.
