The front-line leg spinner achieved the feat during his spell of 1-43 in India's clinical win over Bangladesh in the 3rd T2OI at Nagpur on Sunday. Chahal clean bowled Bangladesh captain Mahmudullah to get to his 50th scalp in the shortest format.
Chahal, who was playing his 34th T20I, eclipsed the Indian record set by seamer Jasprit Bumrah, who had reached the milestone in 41 games. Off spinner Ravichandran Ashwin is the third fastest Indian to get to the milestone, taking 42 games to achieve the same.
Sri Lankan off spinner Ajantha Mendis, leads the list of fastest bowlers to have picked up 50th T20I scalps. The offie attained the milestone in just his 26th match. Proteas off-spinner Imran Tahir and Afghanistan leg spinner Rashid Khan (both 31 matches) are the next fastest. Bangladesh's Mustafizur Rahman (33) is the only other bowler in the world, who got to 50 wickets in fewer games than Chahal.
The third and final T20I between India and Bangladesh was played at VCA Stadium in Nagpur. Bangladesh skipper Mahmudullah won the toss and elected to bowl first. Hosts India posted an imposing 174/5 total on the back of fine half centuries from KL Rahul (52) and Shreyas Iyer (62). For Bangladesh, Shafiul Islam and Soumya Sarkar picked up two wickets each.
Chasing a daunting 175-run target, Bangladesh were all out for 154 runs in the 20th over as seamer Deepak Chahar bowled a terrific spell to end with staggering figures of 7/6. Opener Mohammad Naim top scorer for Bangladesh, scoring 81 runs off 48 balls that was 10 fours and two sixes. Mohammad Mithun also added 27 runs, while the rest of the batsmen in the Bangladesh pack couldn't even reach double figures.
