New Zealand Vs Bangladesh ODI: RCB Millionaire Kyle Jamieson Denied Wicket After Controversial Catch, Watch Video

New Zealand vs Bangladesh 2^nd ODI: Kyle Jamieson looked astonished along with the other NZ players after his catch was overturned despite the soft-signal being in his favor. The batsman in contention was Tamim Iqbal who was batting on 34 when the incident took place. The online community also was surprised to see Tamim ruled not-out. This incident happened during the first innings of the on-going 2^nd ODI between NZ and Bangladesh.

Jamieson, who was recently picked by the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the IPL Auction 2021 for 15 crore rupees was not happy after the decision. The ‘soft-signal’ rule has come under fire for the second time in a week. Last week, the point of contention was the catch taken by Suryakumar Yadav of England’s Dawid Malan in the 4^th India vs England T20I. In the 2^nd ODI between NZ and Bangladesh, Tamim Iqbal hit the ball straight back at the bowler. The bowler, Jamieson took a stunning catch in his follow-through which is one of the difficult catches to take. The ‘soft-signal’ was out which was given by the on-field umpire but when the decision was reviewed, the third umpire Knights said “I've got the ball on the ground and the player is not fully in control.” The decision was later reversed and Tamim Iqbal was adjudged ‘Not-out’. This paved way to a discussion on social media. However, as per the MCC Laws - which are used as a reference in international cricket to define rules – the catch didn’t fit as legitimate.

MCC’s rule 33.3 which is titled as ‘Making a catch’ states: “The act of making a catch shall start from the time when the ball first comes into contact with a fielder’s person and shall end when a fielder obtains complete control over both the ball and his/her own movement.”

Nonetheless, NZ failed to pick Tamim Iqbal on 34 who went on to score 78 runs of 108 balls. Bangladesh’s first innings score reached 267-6 in 50 overs courtesy of 78 by Tamim and a quick-fire 69 by Mohammed Mithun. NZ 2^nd innings will be an interesting watch.
