The BCCI took a historic decision on Thursday to give the same match fee to both men and women. They will be receiving INR 15 lakhs for the Test, INR 6 lakhs for ODI, and INR 3 lakhs for the T20I.

Former cricketer Harmanpreet Kaur was elated by the move of BCCI. She said, “First of all, I welcome this decision and you know we always talk about equality. First time in India we are getting equal pay as men are getting. I am really happy this is happening now and I am sure a lot of girls in India will take cricket as a career.”

Many former and current cricketers took to their social media handles and appreciated BCCI for the historic move.

Earlier, the BCCI secretary Jay Shah tweeted,  “I’m pleased to announce BCCI’s first step towards tackling discrimination. We are implementing a pay equity policy for our contracted BCCIWomen cricketers. The match fee for both Men and Women Cricketers will be the same as we move into a new era of gender equality in Cricket".

"The women cricketers will be paid the same match fee as their male counterparts. Test (INR 15 lakhs), ODI (INR 6 lakhs), T20I (INR 3 lakhs). Pay equity was my commitment to our women cricketers and I thank the Apex Council for their support," he added.
