The existing rule, that allowed three players from any domicile to represent the state as professionals, will also severely impact new teams like Uttrakhand, Puducherry, Chandigarh and the North-Eastern states who relied heavily on players from big cricketing states to compete.

This ruling was part of BCCI's major crackdown on age and domicile corruption that has been made public.

In one of the last communication in his role as General Manager, Cricket Operations, Saba Karim sent the email to state associations applicable from the forthcoming 2020-21 season.

This initiative, backed by NCA director Rahul Dravid, found favour with the current regime of president Sourav Ganguly and secretary Jay Shah and introduced an 'amnesty' scheme for the board to maintain perfect records going forth and also stamp out corruption.
