The rising success of the thirteenth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2020) staged in the UAE even in Covid-19 times and the recent plunge of finances within the Indian Cricket board (BCCI) due to economic recession has meant that the BCCI has decided to ultimately reintroduce 10 teams in the IPL from the next edition.

As per the agenda for BCCI's AGM on December 24, notice of the apex cricket board on circulation, discussion and approval to introduce and float two more teams for the IPL from the coming 2021 season has been put in place.

While the venues for the upcoming edition of the IPL are likely to be decided, it is almost certain that Sardar Patel stadium in Motera, Ahmedabad will be the ninth venue for the IPL. There is an increasing consensus that one amongst the cities of Uttar Pradesh -- Kanpur or Lucknow will be auctioned to interested parties at a designated date.
