Ex-India all-rounder and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) assistant coach Abhishek Nair might join the supporting staff of Team India's new head coach, Gautam Gambhir. On Tuesday (July 9), the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) appointed Gautam Gambhir as the new head coach of the Indian cricket team.


Following the announcement, the search for the remaining coaching staff positions has begun. BCCI is now looking for batting, bowling, and fielding coaches. According to a Cricbuzz report, Kolkata Knight Riders' assistant coach Abhishek Nair might become the new assistant coach of the Indian team, while former fielding coach T Dilip is expected to continue in his role.

According to the report, Gautam Gambhir might take on the role of batting coach himself. Fpr the position of bowling coach, BCCI and Gambhir are considering candidates like Lakshmipathy Balaji and Vinay Kumar, both of whom have previously worked with Gambhir at Kolkata Knight Riders.


42-year-old Gautam Gambhir has taken over from Rahul Dravid as the head coach of Team India. Dravid's tenure ended after the T20 World Cup 2024. Gambhir will lead the team until July 2027. Recently, he guided Kolkata Knight Riders to victory in IPL 2024 as their mentor. Under Gambhir's mentorship, Lucknow Super Giants achieved consecutive playoff appearances in the IPL.

Gautam Gambhir's first assignment as Team India's head coach will be the upcoming white-ball series against Sri Lanka, featuring three ODIs and as many T20Is.


His tenure as India head coach will culminate with 2027 ODI World Cup. Prior to this, the former India opener will face significant challenges, including a tour to Australia for Tests, followed by ICC Champions Trophy 2025 and ICC World Test Championship final 2023-25.
