Sophie Devine Reaction On Loss To Aus Women: New Zealand Women suffered a humiliating loss at the loss of Australia Women in the Match 10 of the Women's T20 World Cup 2024, as the White Ferns were bundled out for merely 88 runs in their run chase of 149.
Sophie Devine, during the post-match presentation cermeomy, added that her side needs to up the ante, as they will be playing a crucial fixture against Sri Lanka Women on Saturday.
"Look I thought we needed to keep ourselves in the game. In these types of games, the required run rate can accelerate pretty quickly. On these kinds of pitches, it's hard. The wicket played little better than we thought it would. We got ourselves in a little bit of hole. We will take some key learnings from this. We will reflect and re-focus before taking on Sri Lanka," said Sophie Devine.
"We were bowling a bit far away from the stumps which wasn't the case against India where we kept them in play. Also, we were a bit sloppy in the field. We weren't up with the bat. We were not quite up to the mark against this quality opposition. The discussion is to win the game. There was a thought process about the net run rate but we weren't good enough today. We have to make sure that we keep ourselves in a good position to qualify for the semi-finals," said the NZ Women skipper
"First, we need to win. We don't want to get carried away. Sri Lanka is a big game for us. They bring in a different challenge. Chamari is a great player who is a big threat. We have to reflect and prepare for it," she added.
Alyssa Healy Hails Her Side's Bowling Effort In Drubbing Of NZ Women
Australia Women handed their trans-tasman rivals a drubbing of the highest order, as they reduced their mammoth +2.9 Net Run Rate to negative, and the Aussie skipper had the following to say during the post-match presentation ceremony:
"Ah, I think we just got the job done. We were a bit disappointed at the halfway stage. I thought we could have been a bit smarter with the bat in the fag end of the Innings but we were sensational with the ball. Yeah, the wicket played the same way like we expected, it had a little bit more bounce but the way they bowled in the backend and also the way we bowled in our Innings showcased it how to bowl in this surface."
"Well, really pleased with the effort. We will sit and plan about what can be done better in the upcoming games and then we will see how it goes. She is awesome for us in World Cups. She set the tone up for us and also Annabel Sutherland was brilliant, her two wickets in that over put us in a really comfortable position."
