Team India's star leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal was one of notable omissions from India's 17-man Asia Cup 2023 squad. Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee preferred Kuldeep Yadav (specialist spinner) over Chahal and went ahead with the likes of Axar Patel (spin all-rounder) and Ravnindra Jadeja (spin all-rounder) for the upcoming continental tournament. When it comes to being picked in World Cups, luck doesn't seem to favor Chahal, who was previously ignored by selectors for India's T20 World Cup 2021 squad as veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, not even a regular in T20Is, was preferred over him by the team management.
Meanwhile, a day after BCCI's official squad announcement for Asia Cup 2023 Indian squad, Chahal's wife Dhanashree Verma took to Instagram to share a cryptic message, questioning if being an introvert can hinder an individual's career growth.
"Now I have started to question this on a serious note. If being super submissive & introvert can be harmful for your work growth? Or do we all have to be an extrovert & street smart savvy to grow in life?" Dhanashree wrote on Instagram.
"In the end, It is between you & your God and fortunately the world is with you. Thankful. God is great", she wrote in another post.
Following his snub from India's Asia Cup 2023 squad, Yuzvendra Chahal had posted an epic emoji-loaded message on official X (formerly Twitter) which had no words but the message was clear.
Notably, when chief selector Ajit Agarkar was asked about Chahal's omission at the press conference, he said that it was hard to fit in two wrist spinners and Kuldeep Yadav was a bit ahead than Chahal for the place of a single wrist spinner in the side.
"Terrific performer but we had to look at the balance of the team. To fit in two wrist spinners was difficult. We can fit only one wrist spinner. It’s unfortunate for one to miss out and right now, Kuldeep is a bit ahead," Agarkar said.
