Asia Cup is all set to make a comeback after four years. The tournament will be held in Sri Lanka from August 27, 2022 to September 11, 2022. The qualifiers will be played from August 20. It was announced after the annual general meeting of the Asian Cricket Council members.

The last tournament was scheduled to be played in 2020, but it was canceled due to the worldwide Covid-19 outbreak. Even in 2021, Asia Cup had to be cancelled due to the pandemic.

The previous tournament, of 2018, was played in a 50-over format. It is being said that Asia Cup would be a precursor to the T20 World Cup, scheduled for October 2022.

India has been a dominant force in the Asia Cup winning seven out of the 14 tournaments (984, 1988, 1990, 1995, 2010, 2016 and 2018) held so far. Sri Lanka has won it five times (1986, 1997, 2004, 2008 and 2014), while Pakistan managed to win it twice in 2000 and 2012.

ACC also announced that Qatar Cricket Association has been upgraded from Associate member to ACC Full Member status.

Jay Shah's tenure as Asian Cricket Council (ACC) President has been extended until 2024. "The ACC Members unanimously decided that the tenure of Mr. Jay Shah as ACC President and that of the Executive Board along with its Committees will continue until 2024 AGM," wrote ACC in a tweet.
