In a huge blow to Sri Lanka, wicketkeeper Dinesh Chandimal has been ruled out form the upcoming Asia Cup 2018 due to an injury. The 28-year-old batsman had injured a finger during a domestic Twenty20 match and needed more time to recover.

The Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has confirmed the development on Monday through a statement.

Here’s the official post:

At the same time, the board has announced Chandimal’s replacement. Opening batsman and wicketkeeper Niroshan Dickwella has been roped in at the six-nation Asia Cup tournament which opens in the United Arab Emirates on Saturday, the SLC said.

Here’s the revised squad:

Angelo Mathews (Captain), Kusal Perera, Kusal Mendis, Upul Tharanga, Niroshan Dickwella, Danushka Gunathilaka, Thisara Perera, Dasun Shanaka, Dhanajaya de Silva, Akila Dananjaya, Dilruwan Perera, Amila Aponso, Kasun Rajitha, Suranga Lakmal, Dushmantha Chameera and Lasith Malinga.

Earlier on September 1, SLC announced the squad in which Dickwella wasn’t included. Veteran pacer Lasith Malinga returned after a gap of one year to the play forthcoming tournament.

The injury-prone 35-year-old last represented his country in September last year against India in Colombo after which he was largely ignored. However, the official sources said he had impressed selectors during an ongoing domestic T20 series.
