Former India cricketer Anshuman Gaekwad has passed away at the age of 71 following a prolonged battle with cancer. He breathed his last breath on July 31 (Wednesday). Gaekwad had been receiving treatment for blood cancer in London before returning to India last month. Numerous cricketers, both past and present, have extended their condolences and best wishes to Gaekwad's family.
Gaekwad, who also had a stint as an India coach, played 40 Tests and 15 ODIs between 1975 and 1987. During his Test career, he amassed 1,985 runs, including a notable 201 in an 11-hour innings against Pakistan.

Indian prime minister Narendra Modi took to twitter to express his condolences on Gaekwad’s passing. “Shri Anshuman Gaekwad Ji will be remembered for his contribution to cricket. He was a gifted player and an outstanding coach. Pained by his demise. Condolences to his family and admirers. Om Shanti,” he said.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary Jay Shah took to his official X account to convey his condolences to Gaekwad's family and friends. “My deepest condolences to the family and friends of Mr Aunshuman Gaekwad. Heartbreaking for the entire cricket fraternity. May his soul rest in peace,” Shah wrote.

Earlier, Jay Shah pledged INR 1 crore to support Gaekwad. Shah personally reached out to Gaekwad’s family to offer his heartfelt support during this difficult time.
Kapil Dev and several other cricketing legends, including Mohinder Amarnath, Sunil Gavaskar, Sandeep Patil, Dilip Vengsarkar, Madan Lal, Ravi Shastri and Kirti Azad, also requested the BCCI to provide financial aid to former cricketer Anshuman Gaekwad, who was suffering from blood cancer.
