Indian batsman Ambati Rayudu faced a huge blow after failing the YoYo test on June 15 at the National cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. After performing phenomenally in the recently concluded Indian Premier League’s (IPL) eleventh edition, Rayudu was inducted into India’s ODI squad for the forthcoming tour to England. However, after failing the fitness test, Rayudu is likely to miss his much-awaited comeback in the Indian dressing room.
According to PTI, a BCCI official said, “Ambati Rayudu is the only player in the UK-bound squad, who has failed to clear the fitness test. His score is well below the permissible 16.1 set for the India and India A team. Rayudu will be dropped from the squad.”
Rayudu played a major role for his franchise Chennai Super Kings (CSK) during IPL 2018. He scored a total of 602 runs in the entire tournament at an average of 43. Shockingly, he failed to maintain his requisite fitness within three weeks of the tournament’s conclusion.
The YoYo test is the basic fitness parameter set by the Indian team management before any tour, was conducted at the National Cricket Academy ground, in the presence of Team India trainer Shankar Basu and the other support staff.
Players including MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Suresh Raina have successfully passed the test. The likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Siddharth Kaul, Washington Sundar, Yuzvendra Chahal, Manish Pandey were also seen taking the test after the batch comprising Kohli and Dhoni were done with theirs.
The tour of England, comprising three T20 Internationals, three ODIs and five Test matches, starts July 3.
