India's men's hockey team win silver in CWG 2022: A billion hearts break on Monday after the might Australia men's hockey team defeated India's men's hockey team 7-0 to win a record-extending gold medal at the Commonwealth Games (CWG) 2022 in Birmingham. Hockey was the Indian contingent's last event in CWG 2022. With this, India finishes with 61 medals at the Games. 


Australia has yet again proven that they are inevitable in Hockey. This is Australia's 7th consecutive gold medal win (1998, 2002, 2006, 2010, 2014, 2018, 2022) in Men's Hockey at Commonwealth Games. India has clashed against Australia three times in the final of CWG. India, today, India suffers a third final defeat against Australia in the CWG final. They have lost 8-0 (2010), 4-0 (2014), and 7-0 (2022).






India qualified for the men's hockey finals at Commonwealth Games 2022 by defeating South Africa 3-2 in the CWG 2022 semi-finals.


Australia had taken a 2-0 lead in the first quarter, which they continued to extend. In the second quarter, Aussies scored 3 goals to extend their lead. Medal favourites Australian did not make any mistake in the third quarter and scored a goal. Even in the fourth and final quarter, the Indian team failed to make a mark. Australia scored a goal in the final quarter as well, while India's account remained empty till the final hooter.


Australia has conceded only two goals across seven finals now, including today's final clash against India. Hard yards continue for India's men's hockey team to close the gap between them and the mighty Aussies.
