New Delhi: Indian wrestlers were on a roll in Birmingham as they outclassed several Commonwealth Games high rankers in the medal fray to continue India's gold rush. India on Friday bagged a total of three gold medals in CWG 2022.


Tokyo Olympics bronze medalist wrestler Bajrang Punia defeated Canadian wrestler Lachlan McNeil 9-2 in the men's 65kg weight category to win the Commonwealth Games gold medal for the second time in a row.


Later, Sakshi Malik secured a second wrestling gold for India by pinning her opponent in the women's freestyle 62 kg category at the Commonwealth Games 2022. This is Sakshi's 3rd CWG medal (silver in Glasgow 2014, bronze in Gold Coast 2018, and Gold in CWG 2022) and first CWG gold.


Deepak Punia then made it three for India by dethroning Pakistan's reigning gold medallist Muhammad Inam in the men's 86kg final.


Indian woman wrestler Anshu Malik opened India's account in wrestling on Friday by winning a silver medal in the 57kg freestyle event of the CWG 2022. She lost the final and settled for silver.


Divya Kakran (68kg) and Mohit Grewal (125kg) won bronze medals in their respective events to take India's total medal tally in wrestling to six. Kakran won the medal in just 26 seconds via victory by fall, while Mohit Grewal got the better of Jamaica's Aaron Johnson in bronze medal bout.
