New Delhi: Harmanpreet Kaur-led Indian women's cricket team departed for the United Kingdom (UK) on Sunday. The Women in Blue are traveling to Birmingham to take part in a multi-nation sporting event, Commonwealth Games (CWG 2022). Cricket has featured in the Commonwealth Games (CWG) once in 1998. In Kuala Lumpur CWG, the 50-over format was used for the men's team competing in the event.
Indian women's cricket team is among the hot favorites to win it all at CWG 2022. India will kick off their campaign on July 29, when it will be taking on the current world champions Australia. India is placed alongside Australia, Pakistan, and Barbados in Group A, and Group B contains England, New Zealand, South Africa, and Sri Lanka.
The Sports Authority of India (SAI) posted a clip via their official handles, where Indian cricketers were seen entering Bengaluru airport amid huge cheers.
SAI captioned the video as: "Indian Women's Cricket Team off to Birmingham for Commonwealth Games 2022. Take a look as India sends them off with lots of support & love at Bengaluru Airport Come on India, let's bleed blue #Cheer4India ."
All 16 matches will be played at Birmingham's Edgbaston cricket ground. The matches will begin on July 29, with the final and third-place playoff scheduled for August 7. Two matches will be played every day. The first match will begin at 3.30 pm IST and the second at 10.30 pm IST.
