Manchester: After reports from Fabrizio Romano and other journalists, it is confirmed by Manchester United officially on their social media that they have signed Real Madrid and France defender Rafael Varane on a permanent deal till 2025 plus an option to extend the deal further.
Manchester United, in a statement said: "Manchester United is delighted to announce the club has reached agreement with Real Madrid for the transfer of French international defender and World Cup winner, Raphaël Varane, subject to a medical and to player terms being finalised."
Recently, Man United also signed Dortmund striker Jadon Sancho.
It has been more than a year now that Jadon Sancho was in talks with Manchester United over a deal. Dortmund had asked for £108million last year for Jadon Sancho, thus this £72.9 million deal is a significant win for Man United. Due to the changing economic climate of Covid-19 and with only 2 years left on Sancho's contract, he had no other option but to go for the Manchester-based club.
With these new signings, United look like a formidable side. The defence that was shaky three years ago looks good with Shaw, Maguire, Wan Bisaka, Lindelof and Varane. The front three with Cavani, Rashford and Sancho also look deadly. The midfield with Pogba, Fernandes and co also will be a challenge for European sides.
