New Delhi: India's premier First-class tournament, Ranji Trophy 2021-22 suffered a major blow due to surging Coronavirus cases in the country. BCCI President Sourav Ganguly exclusively told ABP News that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to postpone Ranji Trophy.
As per news agency ANI, Col C K Nayudu Trophy & Senior Women’s T20 League for 2021-22 season have also been put on hold in view of rising COVID cases.
This year, the Ranji Trophy 201-22 season was slated to start from January 13 fears of a third wave due to Omicron variant of COVID-19 forced BCCI to postpone the domestic cricket tournament.
Just a few days ahead of the tournament, some players and staff members from teams of Mumbai and Bengal Ranji camps tested positive for Covid-19. Mumbai's all-rounder Shivam Dube and team's video analyst tested positive for Covid-19.
Dube was included in Mumbai's squad for matches against Maharashtra and Delhi.
Covid scare in West Bengal Ranji camp
Reportedly, six players and one staff member of the Bengal Ranji camp recently tested positive for Coronavirus. Anustup Majumdar, Sudip Chatterjee, Qazi Junaid Saifi, Geet Puri, Pradipta Pramanik and Surjit Yadav along with assistant coach Sourasish Lahiri had tested positive for the dreaded infection.
“Keeping in mind the prevailing situation, the Cricket Association of Bengal had conducted RT-PCR tests of all Bengal cricketers as a safety measure. The results have come out and it has been found that certain players had tested positive,” CAB secretary Snehasish Ganguly had said.
