New Delhi: Indian fans' dream of seeing the national team lift T20 World Cup 2022 final trophy was shattered after their heartbreaking semi-final defeat against England. Calls have grown for BCCI to take some stern calls after team India's repeated failures at ICC events. It looks like the apex board is all set to make some significant changes in the national team's setup.
As per a report in the Telegraph, BCCI is deliberating on appointing more than one coach for national team. The board feels it is becoming very difficult for head coach Rahul Dravid to mentor team India in all three formats. Also, BCCI is reportedly considering having separate teams for limited overs format and Test cricket. Not only this, different coaching staff might be appointed for team India for different formats.
Notably, MS Dhoni is likely to call time on his IPL career after IPL 2023. BCCI might ask the two-time World Cup winning skipper to get involved in India's T20 set-up for upliftment of the team.
The last time India won the T20 World Cup was in the year 2007 and last time India won an ICC Trophy was in 2013, on both occasions, Mahendra Singh Dhoni led the national team.
The report in Telegraph suggests that all such decisions will be discussed in BCCI's apex council meeting, next month. The next edition of T20 World Cup will be played in 2024, but before that, the 2023 ODI World Cup will be played in India, next year.
Also, it is possible that BCCI might hand over India's T20 captaincy to star all-rounder Hardik Pandya.
