Melbourne: Melbourne Star's hard-hitting batsman Marcus Stoinis played a fiery unbeaten knock of 147 runs on Sunday against Sydney Sixers to become the highest run-getter in the much-popular Big Bash League (BBL). All-rounder Stoinis surpassed D'Arcy Short, who previously held the record with unbeaten 69-ball 122 in 2018. This was also Stoinis' first ton in the format and he is also currently the leading run-scorer in the ongoing tournament.

The brilliant record-breaking 207-run partnership between Stoinis and Hilton Cartwright (59 off 40 balls) powered their team Melbourne Stars to a huge 219 run first innings total in their 20 overs.

The partnership between Stoinis and Cartwright is now also the highest-ever partnership in the tournament.  The Aussie all-rounder will play for Delhi Capitals in Indian Premier League 2020 as he was roped in by the franchise in this year's auction.

Delhi Capitals appreciated their new recruit's heroics on Twitter.

"ABSOLUTELY OUTRAGEOUS! @MStoinis finishes with an unbeaten 147 off 79 balls, the highest ever individual score in @BBL history," Delhi Capitals tweeted.
