Melbourne Stars Skipper Glenn Maxwell Scores Unbeaten 154, Highest Individual Score In BBL History

Maxwell, who came out to bat as an opener, completed his ton off just 41 balls. He not only attained the best score of his T20 career, but also scored the 2nd fastest century in BBL history.

New Delhi: Melbourne Stars skipper Glenn Maxwell on Wednesday played arguably one of the greatest innings in the history of T20 cricket during a Big Bash League (BBL) 2021-22 game against Hobart Hurricanes. What makes his innings special is him scoring the ton in his 100th Big Bash League match.

This is Maxwell's second century of the Big Bash League. He scored record-breaking 154 runs off just 64 balls with help of four sixes and 22 fours to power his team Melbourne Stars to 273/2 in allotted 20 overs, their highest T20 score in the history of the T20 League. Last year, Sydney Thunder had scored 232 runs against Sydney Sixers.

Maxwell, who came out to bat as an opener and remained unbeaten till the end, completed his ton off just 41 balls. He not only attained the best score of his T20 career, but also scored the second fastest century in the Big Bash League history.

Craig Simmons holds the record for scoring fastest century in BBL. He scored a 39-ball ton against Adelaide Strikers while playing for Perth Scorchers in 2014.

Apart from Maxwell, the other batter who rose to the occasion was Marcus Stoinis (75 runs off just 31 balls)  who stitched a 132-run stand with Glenn for the third wicket for Melbourne Stars.

Talking about Glenn Maxwell's overall T20 career, this is his 5th century. He has scored 1844 runs in 79 T20 International matches with help of 3 centuries and 9 half-centuries and a remarkable strike rate of 155.

Maxwell, who also bowls off-spin, has also taken 33 wickets in T20Is. He was also part of the Australian team that won the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2021.
