New Delhi: Greek tennis player Stefanos Tsitsipas, on Wednesday, secured a semi-final spot after beating 11th seed Jannik Sinner 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 in the last eight. Tsitsipas' dominating straight-set win over Sinner now gives him a chance to avenge his last year's Australian Open semi-final loss against title favourite Daniil Medvedev and make it to the finals.


Second seed Medvedev had defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas in last year's Australian Open semi-final.


Meanwhile, earlier on Tuesday, Tsitsipas had qualified for Australian Open quarterfinals by defeating Taylor Fritz. However, the star Tennis player set social media abuzz not because of his remarkable win against the star American player but after a video of him 'rescuing a ball girl from an insect' went viral on social media.


At the start of 5th set, a ball girl was finding it tough to deal with an insect. Seeing this, Tsitsipas not only rescued the girl but also made sure to not kill the insect as he removed it from the court, using his racket.

25-year-old Medvedev is aiming to win the Australian Open after he had lost the same title against Serbia's Novak Djokovic in the finals, last year.


Djokovic, unvaccinated against Coronavirus, was deported from Australia after the government revoked his visa. His absence has given opportunity to younger players to win the marquee event.
