Indian doubles stalwart Rohan Bopanna, who for more than twenty years has been competing at the highest level of professional tennis, is just a win away from creating history.

At the age of 43, Rohan Bopanna, alongside Matthew Ebden, achieved a significant win over Koolhof and Mektic in the third round of Australian Open, moving the Indian Tennis star to career-best number two spot in the ATP men's doubles ranking.

Rohan Bopanna and Matthew Ebden will secure the World No. 1 crown in ATP rankings if they manage to beat sixth-seeded Argentinian pair Maximo Gonzalez and Andres Molteni in Australia Open 2024 quarter-finals on Wednesday at Melbourne Park.

Also, by winning the Australian Open quarterfinals on Wednesday, 43-year-old Bopanna would become the oldest player in men's tennis history to achieve the No. 1 doubles ranking.

The last Indian tennis player to reach the pinnacle of world rankings was Sania Mirza, who achieved the World No. 1 position in women's doubles in April 2015.

Rohan Bopanna entered the Australian Open 2024 as the third-ranked player in men's doubles, with his partner, Matt Ebden, holding the fourth position.

Bopanna achieved a significant milestone last September, becoming the oldest man to qualify for a Grand Slam final in the Open era.
