New Delhi: A high on confidence Australian team, after empathic wins in the first two Tests, dominated England on the first day of the AUS vs ENG 3rd Test being played in Melbourne. Thanks to a solid bowling performance from the bowlers, Australia are on top and are running away with this one.
Put to bat first after losing the toss, England were bundled out for just 185 runs in their first innings. After this, by the end of the first day's play, Australia had reached 61 runs for loss of one wicket.
At stumps, Marcus Harris returned unbeaten on 20 and Nathan Lyon at 0. Opener David Warner was dismissed by James Anderson after scoring 38 runs. The Australian team trail England by just 124 runs.
For Australia, skipper Pat Cummins (3/36) and spinner Nathan Lyon ((3/36) starred with the ball. Veteran Mitchell Starc bagged two wickets for 54 runs while Cameron Green and Scott Boland, playing his first Test match, got a wicket apiece.
England did not have a good start and by lunch on Day 1, the visitors had lost three wickets for just 61 runs. After this, England lost another three wickets in the second session, including the wickets of captain Joe Root (50) and all-rounder Ben Stokes (25).
Australia continued their dominance in the third session by taking the remaining four wickets to restrict England to just 185.
