India got off to a flying start in the shooting events at the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, as they clinched the silver medal in the women's 10m air rifle team event. The trio of Mehuli Ghosh, Ramita Jindal and Ashi Chouksey combined their exceptional skills to achieve a total score of 1886.0. They were edged out by the formidable Chinese team, which set a new Asian record with an astonishing score of 1896.6.
This accomplishment was the result of remarkable teamwork and individual brilliance. Mehuli Ghosh and Ramita Jindal also secured their spots in the final of the women's 10m air rifle event, scheduled to be held later on Sunday (September 24). In the qualification round, 19-year-old Ramita Jindal showcased her immense talent by finishing second with a score of 631.9. Her teammate, Mehuli Ghosh, secured the fourth position with a score of 630.8.

The team medal in shooting is determined by the cumulative score of a country's shooters during the qualification round. India's early success can be attributed to the consistently outstanding performances of Ramita and Mehuli, who consistently ranked among the top shooters. Ashi Chouksey, the third member of the team, displayed a commendable performance by finishing 29th in the qualification round with a score of 623.3.
On a day where multiple medals are on offer for the Indian contingent, India also secured a silver medal in the rowing lightweight men's double sculls event in which Arjun Lal Jat and Arvind Singh were representing India.
