The Indian contingent which has 655 members are plying their trades in the ongoing Asian Games 2023 in Hangzhou, the People’s Republic of China. The 19th edition of the Asian Games started on September 23 and will conclude on October 8. The current edition was earlier slated to take place in 2022 but due to covid, it was postponed by a year. During the last edition of the Asian Games that transpired in Jakarta in the year 2018, a 570-member Indian contingent ended the season with 70 medals - 16 gold, 23 silver, and 31 bronze.

The Indian contingent in Hangzhou has some top names like men’s javelin throw player Neeraj Chopra, the reigning world, Olympic, and Asian Games champion Avinash Sable, and women’s hurdles sensation Jyothi Yarraji.

India are also taking part in cricket at the Asian Games for the first time. Both men’s and women’s teams are competing this time. Football and hockey will also see full-fledged participation by India. Talking about the medal tally, the Indian team have sealed a total of 11 medals so far at the Asian Games 2023, two gold, three silver, and six bronze. Shooting players Mehuli Ghosh, Ramita Jindal, and Ashi Chouksey opened India’s account with a silver medal in the women’s 10m air rifle team event on Sunday. The Indian women's cricket team also clinched a gold medal after they defeated Sri Lanka in the summit clash by 19 runs on Monday. This was overall India's second gold medal at the 2023 Asian Games.

Apart from medals, the ongoing Asian Games 2023 which is undergoing in Hangzhou also provides opportunities for 74 Paris 2024 Olympic quotas - six are there in archery, 10 in artistic swimming, 34 in boxing, two in breaking, two in hockey, 10 in modern pentathlon, six in sailing, two in tennis and two in water polo.
