Records continued to tumble for India on Friday at the Hangzhou Asian Games 2023 as its medal tally crossed 90 on the back of HS Prannoy giving India's first medal in men's singles badminton in 41 years. India has so far bagged 91 medals -  21 gold, 33 silver and 36 bronze.


India, which has set a target of surpassing the 100-medal mark at this year's event, has made 'Aab ki Baar, Sau Paar' its catchline for the showpiece event.


India's best performance previously came in the 2018 Jakarta Games, where it won 70 medals - 16 gold, 23 silver and 31 bronze. For India, its shooting and athletics contingents have been the biggest medal contributors so far. India have got 22 medals in shooting and 29 so far in athletics.



China leads the table with 333 medals -- 179 gold, 99 silver and 55 bronze. Japan and South Korea are second and third in the list. India is ranked fourth.


On Friday, Indian wrestler Sonam Malik won bronze in women's 62 kg with 7-5 win over China's Jia Long. This is India's third wrestling bronze medal in this edition. Sunil Kumar (Greco Roman) and Antim Panghal (women's 53kg) bagged two medals earlier.


Indian archers Atanu Das, Dhiraj Bommadevara, Tushar Prabhakar won silver after losing to South Korea in men's recurve team final at Asian Games. The women's recurve team of Ankita Bhakat, Simranjeet Kaur and Bhajan Kaur clinched bronze, ending India's wait of 13 years for a medal in this event.


This was India's record eighth medal overall in archery at the Asain Games. The last time India had won a medal in recurve category at the Asian Games was 13 years ago.


Meanwhile, Indian women's regu team won a historic bronze in sepaktakraw after losing to Thailand. Ayekpam Maipak Devi, Oinam Chaoba Devi, Khushbu, Elangbam Priya Devi and Elangbam Leirentombi Devi lost 10-21 13-21 in the semifinals.


This was the first-ever medal for India in women's sepaktakraw at the Asian Games. The Indian men's regu team had won a bronze in the 2018 Asian Games.


Earlier in the day, shuttler HS Prannoy had to settle for bronze in men's singles badminton after losing to reigning All England champion China's Li Shi Feng in the semifinals.
