Harshal Patel ruled out of Asia Cup 2022: Indian cricket team's young speedster Harshal Patel has been ruled out of the upcoming Asia Cup 2022 tournament due to injury, Cricbuzz reported. Harshal sustained a side strain after which he'll now miss the final two matches of the ongoing five-match T20I series against West Indies as well. Rohit Sharma-led team India is currently in America, where they are playing the last two T20 matches against West Indies. According to the report of Cricbuzz, Harshal is now also in doubt for the T20 World Cup 2022 to be held in Australia in October-November this year.
The team for the Asia Cup 2022 will be announced on Monday and Harshal's name will not be considered at that time. In the Asia Cup 2022, India has to play its first match against Pakistan on 28 August.
The team selected for the Asia Cup will be roughly the same as the one traveling for the T20 World Cup to be held in Australia in October-November. It is believed that the same player will also play in the six T20 Internationals against Australia and South Africa in September and October. The selectors want to give an ample number of matches to the team management to find the best combination before the T20 World Cup in Australia.
The selectors will have a meeting in Mumbai on August 8 to select team for Asia Cup 2022, where they will be joined by head coach Rahul Dravid and all-format skipper Rohit Sharma virtually from Florida. As per an ANI report, star all-rounder Hardik Pandya could be made the permanent vice-captain of India in the T20 set-up for the upcoming Asia Cup 2022 and T20 World Cup tournaments.
