The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) of Bangladesh Police swung into action on Monday and arrested a resident of South Sunamganj, who had threatened to kill Bangladeshi cricketer Shakib Al Hasan via a live Facebook video post.


The person who issued a threat to kill Shakib Al Hasan on social media has been identified as 25-year-old Mohsin Talukdar.

A case under the Digital Security Act (DSA) was earlier registered against Mohsin Talukdar for issuing death threat to Shakib for attending a Kali Puja event in West Bengal's state capital Kolkata.

Talukdar, a resident of Shahpur Talukdar Para in Sylhet, went live on social medial platform Facebook at around 12 noon (12.06 PM) on Sunday to condemn Shakib over attending a Kali Puja at Kolkata.

In his Facebook Live video, Talukdar hit out hard and issued a death threat to Shakib by stating that he had hurt the sentiments of 'Muslims'.

Shakib Al Hasan Issues Clarification Over His Visit To Kali Puja event In Kolkata

Giving a clarification over why he attended the Kali Puja event in Kolkata, Shakib Al Hasan said that he did not inaugurate the ceremony. However, he tendered an apology if his visit to the Hindu religion event hurt anybody's feelings and sentiment.

The experienced Bangladeshi cricketer added that he is a proud Muslim and it was never his intention to belittle his own religion.

He also appealed to his fellow countrymen to not to do anything which divides people and behave responsibly. Shakib Al Hasan was also in the news recently for breaking the mobile phone of one of his fans while crossing over to India through the land border.
