World Number One and top seed Novak Djokovic booked a place in the semifinals of the men's singles at French Open after beating Spaniard Pablo Carreno Busta in the quarterfinals played at Roland Garros on Thursday.

The Serbian ace had to overcome a bit of a scare early in the match as he overcame a one set deficit to beat his Spanish opponent in thrilling four set quarterfinal encounter.

The 2016 French Open champion walked onto the court wearing a bandage on his neck and seemed to have problems with his left arm that needed some medical attention by a trainer during changeovers.

The Djokovic vs Busta quarterfinal match up at Roland Garros was in a way a rematch of their fourth round encounter at the 2020 US Open where Djokovic was disqualified and to had to tragically exit the grand slam at Flushing Meadows after hitting the line judge on her throat with the ball

Djokovic who is vying for a second title at Roland Garros will now take on fifth seed Stefanos Tsitsipas in the semifinal after the Greek beat Russian Andrey Rublev 7-5 6-2 6-3 in their quarterfinal encounter.

The first of the two semifinals in the men's singles draw will be played between second seed Rafael Nadal and 12th seed Argentine Diego Schwartzman.

Djokovic who earlier in the year pocketed a record extending 8th Australian Open title is having a stellar run in 2020, improving to 36-1 after his win over Busta in the French Open quarterfinals.

The 17-time Grand Slam champion is looking to add another men's singles title in his kitty and draw close to his long time arch rivals Rafael Nadal (19) and Roger Federer (20) .
