Solar Eclipse 2023 Live Updates: Rare Hybrid Solar Eclipse Today Is A Combination Of Total And Annular Eclipses. Know The Phases

Solar Eclipse 2023 Live Updates: The first solar eclipse of 2023 is a hybrid solar eclipse. It has ended in countries, but is yet to occur in India. However, people in the country will not be able to witness the eclipse in the skies, and can only see it online.

A hybrid solar eclipse, also known as an annular-total eclipse, can change from an annular to a total eclipse, or from a total to an annular eclipse, along the observer's path.

A total solar eclipse has five stages: beginning of partial solar eclipse (first contact); beginning of total solar eclipse (second contact); totality and maximum eclipse; end of total eclipse (third contact); and end of partial eclipse (fourth contact).

In the first contact phase, the Moon becomes visible over the Sun's disk.

The Moon covers the entire disk of the Sun, with some observers in the Moon's umbral path seeing the diamond ring effect, during the second contact phase.

In the totality and maximum eclipse stage, the Moon completely covers the disk of the Sun, with only the Sun's corona being visible, as a result of which the sky goes dark, and temperatures drop. The midpoint of the time of totality of a solar eclipse is known as the maximum point of the eclipse.

The third contact phase is the one in which the Moon starts to move away, and the Sun reappears.

When the Moon leaves the Sun's disk, the partial eclipse ends.

An annular solar eclipse is one in which the edge of the Sun remains visible as a bright ring around the Moon.

Solar Eclipse 2023 Live Updates: Rare Hybrid Solar Eclipse Ends In Australia

Solar Eclipse 2023 Live Updates: The total phase or the totality of the rare, hybrid solar eclipse of April 20, 2023, has come to an end in Australia. The path of totality passed over a small peninsula called North West Cape, in Australia. North West Cape is located about 1,100 kilometres north of Perth. The rest of Australia, and a big portion of Southeast Asia, witnessed a partial solar eclipse.

About 71 per cent of the Sun appeared to be covered by the Moon to observers in Perth.

To observers in Sydney, 10 per cent of the Sun appeared to be covered by the Moon, and in Singapore the figure was 16 per cent. The North West Cape is sparsely populated, and only about 3,000 people inhabit Exmouth, the largest town on the peninsula. However, on the day of the eclipse, thousands of visitors reached Exmouth to witness the event.

On April 20, Exmouth had 58 seconds of totality.

The totality passed over the Learmonth Solar Observatory located about 30 kilometres south of Exmouth.

Solar Eclipse 2023 Live Updates: Some Animals, Including Bees, Act Strangely During A Solar Eclipse

Solar Eclipse 2023 Live Updates: During a solar eclipse, bees stop their daily routines in response to the astronomical phenomenon, according to the Australian Academy of Science.

A 2017 study on total solar eclipse found that bees appeared to stop flying when the Moon totally blocked the Sun during the total solar eclipse, casting the darkest part of its shadow, or the umbra, on Earth's star.

Quoting Professor Candace Galen of the University of Missouri, the Australian Academy of Science said the team of researchers who conducted the study on total solar eclipses in 2017 had not expected the change in the behaviour of bees to be so abrupt. She explained that the bees continued flying up until totality, but as soon as the total phase of the eclipse was reached, they stopped completely.

At dusk, social bees usually fly home to their colonies, and at night, stop their activities. But during the 2017 total solar eclipse, the needs were found to stop all their activities, regardless of the timing.

Solar Eclipse 2023 Live Updates: Hybrid Solar Eclipse Today Is A One-In-10-Years Eclipse

Solar Eclipse 2023 Live Updates: The solar eclipse of April 20, 2023, will be a hybrid solar eclipse, and a one-in-10-years eclipse. The narrow path of totality will stretch from the Indian Ocean to the Pacific.

The curvature of the Earth increases the distance between the Moon and all observers at either end of the narrow path of totality. To those observers, the Moon will appear too small to cover the Sun completely. Therefore, the eclipse will appear to be annular to those observers. In other words, the Sun will appear to form a ring around the Moon.

Since some regions will witness a total solar eclipse while some will see an annular eclipse, the solar eclipse is hybrid, which is a slightly rare phenomenon.

The last hybrid solar eclipse occurred in November 2013, and the next one will occur in November 2031. This makes the solar eclipse a one-in-10-years eclipse.

The path of totality, at the point where it meets Australia, is 40 kilometres wide.

Solar Eclipse 2023 Live Updates: Rare Solar Eclipse Today Is Hybrid. Know What This Means

Solar Eclipse 2023 Live Updates: The rare solar eclipse of April 20, 2023, is hybrid.

A hybrid solar eclipse is also known as an annular-total eclipse, because it can change from an annular to a total eclipse, or from a total to an annular eclipse, along the observer's path.

The reason behind this shift between annular and total is that Earth's surface is curved, because of which the Moon's shadow moves across the globe, according to NASA.

A total solar eclipse occurs when the new Moon comes between the Sun and Earth, and casts the darkest part of its shadow, called the umbra, on Earth.

The Moon entirely covers the Sun during a total solar eclipse, which is visible only in regions located in the path of the Moon's umbra.

Those outside the path of the Moon's umbra see a partial eclipse, with the Moon blocking only a part of the Sun.

An annular solar eclipse is one in which the edge of the Sun remains visible as a bright ring around the Moon.

In case of a partial solar eclipse, the Moon passes between the Sun and Earth, but the three celestial objects are not perfectly lined up, as a result of which only a part of the Sun appears to be covered, giving it a crescent shape.

People outside the area covered by the Moon's inner shadow during a total or annular eclipse can see a partial solar eclipse.

Hybrid Surya Grahan 2023 Live Updates: Hello and welcome to ABP Live, follow the space for all the latest updates on the Hybrid Solar Eclipse 2023.

On April 20, 2023, the first solar eclipse of the year will sweep through Australia and Southeast Asia, marking a rare astronomical event known as the Ningaloo Eclipse. This hybrid solar eclipse will be a combination of total and annular solar eclipses and will be named after an aboriginal word. While the solar eclipse will not be visible in India, people in the country can watch it online.

The Path Of Totality And The Ningaloo Coast

The path of totality, which is the length of time during which the Moon covers the Sun completely during a solar eclipse, will pass over Ningaloo, a UNESCO World Heritage-listed region on Western Australia's remote coast near Exmouth. The Ningaloo Eclipse will cast its shadow over the tip of Australia in a 40-kilometre-wide track. This eclipse will be an extraordinary and rare astronomical event, making it a unique opportunity for Western Australia.

Understanding Hybrid Solar Eclipses

A hybrid solar eclipse, also known as an annular-total eclipse, occurs when the Moon's shadow moves across the globe, and the observer's path changes from an annular to a total eclipse or vice versa. The Earth's surface is curved, which causes the shift between annular and total during the eclipse. During a total solar eclipse, the new Moon comes between the Sun and Earth, casting the darkest part of its shadow, known as the umbra, on Earth. The Moon entirely covers the Sun during a total solar eclipse, making it visible only in those regions located in the path of the Moon's umbra. In contrast, during an annular solar eclipse, the edge of the Sun remains visible as a bright ring around the Moon.

Observing The Eclipse

The countries that will witness the total phase of the solar eclipse are Australia, East Timor, and Indonesia. The path of totality will pass over a small peninsula called North West Cape, located about 1,100 kilometres north of Perth. The rest of Australia and a significant portion of Southeast Asia will witness a partial solar eclipse. In Perth, about 71 per cent of the Sun will appear to be covered by the Moon, while in Sydney, 10 per cent of the Sun will appear to be covered. In Singapore, the figure will be 16 per cent.

The hybrid solar eclipse of April 20, 2023, is a one-in-10-years eclipse, making it a rare phenomenon. The Ningaloo Eclipse, named after an aboriginal word, will pass over one of the most beautiful regions on Earth, the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Ningaloo Coast, located on Western Australia's remote coast near Exmouth. As some regions will witness a total solar eclipse, while others will see an annular eclipse, this solar eclipse is hybrid, making it a slightly rare event.

When And How To Watch The Hybrid Solar Eclipse Online

People in India can watch the hybrid solar eclipse online on the Youtube channels called Ultramix TV and THEREALPAX.
