New Delhi: Florida-based firm Space Perspective has just unveiled the first look of 'Space Lounge', a luxury cabin for space tourists.
Space Perspective will launch paying customers to the stratosphere aboard its 'Spaceship Neptune'. It is a pressurised capsule which will cruise high above Earth, lifted by 'SpaceBalloon'.
The Florida-based firm claims Spaceship Neptune to be the world's only carbon-neutral spaceship.
Spaceship Neptune
Spaceship Neptune comprises the SpaceBalloon, Reserve Descent System, and Neptune Capsule.
In all other spacecraft, the crewed compartment separates from one flight system mid-flight and transfers to another flight system. Unlike these spacecraft, Spaceship Neptune's capsule remains secured to the SpaceBalloon the entire flight from liftoff to splashdown, Space Perspective said on its website.
The SpaceBalloon, propelled by renewable hydrogen, will lift the Spaceship Neptune, without using any rocket.
The Neptune Capsule is a pressurised, roomy capsule, which will allow space explorers to get a spectacular view of Earth from space.
The company unveiled artist's illustrations of the interior of Spaceship Neptune on April 12, on the occasion of the anniversary of the first human spaceflight by cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin in 1961. The luxury cabin inside Spaceship Neptune includes 360-degree panoramic windows and a restroom with a view.
What Makes Space Lounge Special?
The luxury cabin 'Space Lounge' has a state-of-the-art, customisable interior. The cabin features comfortable lounge chairs, mood lighting, and plants and herbs such as lavender, basil, and rosemary, which can be used in food and drink preparations.
This will create a calming environment, according to Space Perspective.
Space explorers can enjoy unparalleled views from the 360-degree panoramic windows. Space Perspective claims that these are the largest-ever flown to space.
In order to enhance the feeling of cosiness inside the capsule, the main surfaces have been designed to be dark, soft, and tactile. This will also reduce reflection and glare in the windows.
The luxurious restroom features a large window, which will allow explorers to enjoy an incredible view.
A telescope, interactive screens, and decorations such as floor lamps will also be included in the Space Lounge, Space Perspective representatives said, according to a report by space.com.
The lounge has been designed in a way such that space tourists can be engaged in social interactions. Due to the arced seating, passengers can get a wider view across the Earth, and can stretch their legs and stand comfortably in front of their seats.
The best part is that there will be wifi aboard the flight, and explorers can livestream their experience.
Space Perspective will also provide food and beverage services.
According to Space Perspective, the entire experience will be captured with both interior and exterior video and stills, making the journey one of the most well-documented six hours of the passenger's life.
It is reported that Space Perspective will begin commercial flights in 2024, and each paying customer is expected to pay about $125,000 to enjoy the view of the curvature of Earth from the Space Lounge.
Space Perspective has about 600 people on its waiting list so far.
