Durga Puja 2025: This year, Navratri will begin from tomorrow, on October 3. Devotees of Goddess Durga eagerly await this festival, during the nine days of Sharadiya Navratri, worship, Garba, Kanya Pujan, Jagrata, and other rituals are performed to please the nine forms of Goddess Durga. Durga Puja begins with Devi Paksha on the auspicious day of Mahalaya. 


Mahalaya marks the beginning of Navaratri by concluding Pitru Paksha, this year it falls on october 2, today. Kolkata stirs to life in the wee hours of dawn to the enchanting voice of Birendra Krishna Bhadra's Mahishasuramarddini, resonating from radio sets in every household.

When Is Mahalaya 2025?


It's on the on the first day of Devi Paksha that Goddess Durga arrives on the Earth. Devi Paksha starts from the next day of Mahalaya Amavasya that marks the end of Pitru Paksha. According to Drik Panchang, in 2025, Pitri Paksha will begin on September 07 and end on September 21. The last day of Pitri Paksha is Mahalaya Amavasya, which means Mahalaya 2025 will be on Wednesday, September 21.  


On Mahalaya, Hindus pay homage to their ancestors. Devi Paksha starts the next day and Durga Puja, including Chandi Path, begins from that day. 


When Is Durga Puja 2025?


According to Drik Panchang, the Durgotsav, which refers to the five days of festivities starting from Shashthi and ending on Vijaya Dashami or Dussehra, will begin from September 28 and end on October 2, 2025.

When Is Kojagiri Purnima 2025?


In some eastern states, especially West Bengal, Odisha and Assam, Goddess Lakshmi is worshipped on the full moon day (Kojagiri Purnima) of Ashwin month. This is celebrated five days after Vijaya Dashami. In 2025, it will be celebrated on October 6.
