On this day, the traditional wedding of Tulsi and Lord Vishnu’s Shaligram idol takes place, and in many places, wedding bells are heard as the festive occasion is celebrated.

Significance Of Tulsi Vivah:
In Hinduism, Kanyadaan (the giving away of a daughter in marriage) is considered the highest form of donation, and performing Tulsi Vivah is believed to yield the same auspicious results as performing Kanyadaan. The ritual is best performed in the courtyard of the house, ideally during the twilight period, after sunset. It is believed that in homes where the marriage of Tulsi and Shaligram is performed, Goddess Lakshmi blesses the house with her presence, ensuring prosperity and well-being.
How Is Tulsi Vivah Performed?
On the day of Tulsi Vivah, devotees wake up early in the Brahma Muhurat, bathe, and then chant mantras while ringing conchs and bells to awaken Lord Vishnu. After his worship, the marriage ceremony takes place in the evening, during Ghodooli Bela (twilight time). The marriage of Lord Shaligram and Tulsi is conducted, with prayers and offerings made to invoke the blessings of prosperity and peace.
Why Did Lord Vishnu Marry Tulsi?
A popular mythological story explains the reason behind Lord Vishnu’s marriage to Tulsi. According to the legend, Vishnu had once tricked his devotee, Vrinda, to defeat the demon Jalandhar. After this betrayal, Vrinda cursed Lord Vishnu, turning him into stone. However, after the prayers of Goddess Lakshmi, Vishnu was restored, and Vrinda eventually attained the state of Sati (self-sacrifice). From her ashes, the Tulsi plant emerged, and the tradition of her marriage to Lord Vishnu’s Shaligram began.
