Maa Durga's Arrival Vehicle:

Navratri 2024 will start on Thursday, October 3. On this day, when Maa Durga arrives on Earth, she will be riding a palanquin (Palaki). According to belief, the arrival of the goddess on a palanquin or "doli" is considered inauspicious. It is said to indicate a decline in the economy, a slowdown in trade, increased violence, the spread of pandemics, and signs of natural calamities.

Maa Durga's Departure Vehicle:

Maa Durga's departure vehicle during Navratri is also determined by the day of the week. This year, Navratri will end on Saturday, October 12, 2024. Maa Durga will depart riding a rooster (Murga), a vehicle that is considered highly inauspicious. It symbolises sorrow and suffering and is associated with adversity.

The ancient shloka explains the impact of Maa Durga’s vehicles:

"Shashi Surya dine yadi sa vijaya Mahishagamaneru ruja shokakara,
Shani Bhaumadine yadi sa vijaya Charanayudha yani kari vikala.
Budha Shukra dine yadi sa vijaya Gajavahana ga shubha vrishtikara,
Surarajagurau yadi sa vijaya Naravahana ga shubha saukhya kara."

This year's departure on a rooster is believed to have a negative impact on the world, bringing increased conflicts, partial outbreaks of pandemics, natural disasters, and political instability.
