What To Do On Meen Sankranti?
- On the day of Surya Sankranti, scriptures mention performing Shraddha for the satisfaction of ancestors. The merit gained from bathing and charity on this day is believed to be everlasting.
On this day, offer Arghya to the Sun at sunrise. Mix red sandalwood, flowers, and rice in water, then stand in the same place and circumambulate. Chant "Om Ghrini Surya Adityaya Namah" while offering Arghya and bow in reverence. Ensure the Arghya water does not fall on the ground; use a copper vessel for offering.
Light a mustard oil lamp while worshipping Lord Hanuman and recite the Hanuman Chalisa and Sundarkand. Offer Durva grass to Lord Ganesha and chant "Shri Ganeshaya Namah" while lighting incense and a lamp.
On Meen Sankranti, Lakshmi Jayanti is also observed. Chant Goddess Lakshmi’s mantra "Om Shreem Hreem Kleem Shri Siddha Lakshmyai Namah" 108 times for prosperity and financial growth.
Why Are Auspicious Works Not Performed?
When the Sun enters Pisces, both the Sun and Jupiter become weak. Due to this, there are no auspicious timings for rituals like marriage during Kharmas. Instead, Sun worship, mantra chanting, charity, and river bathing are observed.
