Mahalaxmi Vrat Katha

"Once upon a time, a poor Brahmin woman lived in a village. She was a devout worshipper of Lord Vishnu. Pleased with her devotion, Lord Vishnu appeared before her and asked her to seek a boon. The Brahmin woman expressed her desire for Goddess Lakshmi to reside in her house, as she was very poor.

Lord Vishnu advised her to invite a woman who came to a nearby temple to make cow dung cakes. This woman, he revealed, was none other than Goddess Lakshmi herself. Following his instructions, the Brahmin woman invited the lady to her home. The lady instructed her to worship Maa Lakshmi for 16 days. The Brahmin woman observed the Mahalaxmi Vrat for 16 days, after which the goddess graced her home with her presence, bringing prosperity and wealth."

Since then, the tradition of observing the 16-day Mahalaxmi Vrat began. It is believed that those who observe this vrat for 16 days receive the blessings of Goddess Lakshmi, who bestows them with happiness and prosperity.
