Hindu Nav Varsh 2025 Date

The new year will begin on January 1, 2025, but the Hindu New Year will start on Sunday, March 30, 2025. This day marks the first day of Chaitra Navratri. Across India, this day is celebrated under various names such as Hindu New Year, Nav Samvatsar, Gudi Padwa, and Cheti Chand. Difference Between Nav Samvatsar And Gregorian Calendar

According to the Hindu Panchang, the New Year is called Nav Samvatsar, celebrated annually on the Pratipada Tithi of Chaitra Shukla Paksha. In contrast, Western traditions mark January 1 as New Year’s Day, celebrated on the same date every year. The Nav Samvatsar and New Year differ not only in their dates but also in their respective years. Currently, the Gregorian calendar marks the year as 2024, while the Hindu Panchang recognizes the year as 2081. There is a 57-year difference between the two calendars, with the Hindu calendar being 57 years ahead of the Gregorian calendar.

History Of Hindu Nav Varsh

According to religious beliefs and the Brahmanda Purana, Lord Vishnu, the preserver of the universe, entrusted the task of creation to Lord Brahma. It is believed that the day Lord Brahma began the creation of the universe was Kartika Shukla Pratipada. Hence, this day is considered the first day of the year in Hindu tradition.
