Ahoi Ashtami is observed during the month of Kartik which is a significant fast, especially for mothers, who observe it for the well-being and long life of their children.   • On this day, mothers and women wake up early and take a vow (Sankalp) to fast for their children's well-being.

  • In the evening, they perform the puja during the appropriate muhurat.

  • A picture or image of Goddess Ahoi is drawn on a wall for worship.

  • The offerings for the puja include 8 puris, 8 puas (sweet fritters), and halwa.

  • The story of Ahoi Ashtami is read or heard during the puja.

  • Special worship is also done for the Sei, an emblem of the deity, by offering halwa and seven stalks of Sarai (a type of reed).

  • After the puja, the Ahoi Ashtami aarti is performed.

  • The fast is broken upon sighting the stars in the sky.
